People & Asset Tracking in Underground Coal Mining
MST’s Tagging and Tracking System reports the location and tracks the movement of personnel and equipment in real-time as they travel through the underground roadways.
Our tracking in underground mines uses strategically placed Wi-Fi Access Points as readers for RFID Tags, that are carried by people or attached to vehicles & other equipment, so their real time position is monitored underground and on the surface.
Importantly, we extend the functionality beyond simple location awareness so your investment in our RFID Tracking technology delivers cost benefits, additional to the safety benefits – as outlined in the Applications section below.
Plus the network installed to provide tracking can also be used for two-way voice communications by simply using our VoIP MinePhones.
Underground Tracking System Applications
Time & Attendance
The reporting of personnel times and exact locations within a production area can facilitate big improvements in the effective and efficient deployment of miners underground. By integrating a person’s competency requirements, the system can ensure that personnel only enter into areas or undertake tasks for which they have sufficient and up to date induction, training and accreditation. Exception reports and reminder renewal notices can be automatically generated and transmitted.
Utilising an asset in the correct place at the correct time starts with knowing where it is. It is from this simple ability that our customers have found big improvements in asset utilisation; particularly in longwall moves and chock relocation. Further interpretation of data, provides trends and information like standing times according to location, which allows them to make additional ongoing improvements.
The use of the location data and the personal communications offered by the ImPact Wi-Fi System can streamline the use of a number of management software applications, such as Fewzion, Pulse, SAP to increase accuracy and, more importantly, to allow quicker corrective responses to any deviation from plan.
Tracking the movements, counting the trip cycles and integrating the payloads of production vehicles, allow KPIs to be monitored and exceptions brought to the attention of the relevant supervisors. Various reporting and alerting systems allow the information to be shared, and acted on in real-time to quickly get the process back on track – SHORT INTERVAL CONTROL.
MST’s network and database are open to third party application providers, as we do not want to own the data, but make it openly available for the mine operator to improve their operations.
In an emergency the ability to quickly locate personnel in the underground coal mine ensures safe and thorough evacuations, and supports fast and targeted search and rescue operations. MST’s MineDash software interprets information from Wi-Fi access points and RFID tags to provide real time locations of personnel at all times.
