Connecting Every Miner. Every Asset. Every Zone
Greater operational efficiency and enhanced safety across the entire mining process.
The MST tracking system has been specifically engineered to operate reliably in the challenging conditions of underground mines, providing an efficient and robust solution for real-time tracking of equipment, vehicles, and personnel. It delivers accurate visibility of location and movement during critical activities such as material transport, shift changes, blasting, incident response, and emergency evacuations.
HELIX Tracking Solutions
At the platform level, HELIX 3D CONNECT turns tracking data into a 3D geospatial digital twin of the mine, combining position, time and movement data into dashboards, reports, alerts and replayable historical records. HELIX Sentinel extends this into workforce intelligence, replacing or complementing traditional tag boards with real-time personnel visibility, contractor management, travel-time analysis, rest-period monitoring and zone-based safety control. MST’s tracking capability is also scalable, supporting phased deployments, multiple sites, surface and underground views, 2D/3D visualisation, configurable geofences and custom reporting.
The system uses active tags worn by personnel, integrated into cap lamps, attached to vehicles and equipment, or installed as fixed location tags for reverse tracking. These tags are detected by MST network infrastructure such as AXON Air, AXON Mesh and AXON IS, enabling teams to monitor movement, presence in critical zones, shift changes, blasting activities, incident response and emergency evacuations.
Key capabilities include:
- Multiple tracking technologies: Wi-Fi, BLE, GNSS and UWB, allowing the right accuracy, coverage and cost profile for each mining area.
- Purpose-built underground hardware: ICCL and Trak Orb cap lamps, PT33 personal tags with panic button, vehicle/equipment tags, fixed location tags and MinePhones.
- Hazardous-area coverage: AXON IS + HELIX enables intrinsically safe tracking in explosion-risk zones where visibility gaps are critical.
- Situational Awareness: uses the same tags, network and HELIX platform to deliver proximity alerts, vehicle-to-person and vehicle-to-vehicle risk detection, configurable warning zones and in-cab alerts without requiring duplicate systems.
- Communications integration: AXON access points can support tracking and communications together, while ICCL and MinePhone options add messaging, VoIP, alarms and operational visibility.

Solutions to track your team all the way to the face ...
Technology that adds the visibility you need ...
A 3D digital twin mine transforms tracking from simple location monitoring into a complete operational visibility tool. By representing the mine in a live geospatial environment, teams can see the real-time position and movement of personnel, vehicles and equipment across underground and surface areas. This improves situational awareness, supports faster decision-making and gives control rooms a clearer understanding of what is happening across the operation at any given moment. It is especially valuable during high-risk activities such as shift changes, blasting, incident response and emergency evacuations, where knowing who and what is in each zone can directly improve safety outcomes.
The digital twin also turns tracking data into actionable intelligence. Historical movement records and replay capability allow teams to reconstruct events, analyse travel routes, identify bottlenecks and support compliance or incident investigations. Dynamic Position Monitoring zones add further value by measuring presence, movement and dwell time in defined areas, helping operations assess equipment utilisation, haulage cycles, personnel deployment and productivity. In this way, the 3D digital twin helps mines move beyond “where is it?” to “what is happening, why is it happening, and how can we improve it?”.
