AusIMM Tech Forum 2026 – Brisbane

MST Global shares Short Interval Control underground mining technology insights.

MST Global was proud to take part in the recent AusIMM Technology Forum, held in Brisbane on Thursday, 21 May 2026, where mining and resources leaders came together to explore the technologies shaping safer, more productive and more sustainable operations.

The Brisbane forum brought together a strong line-up of industry speakers, with sessions covering generative AI, haul road performance, automation, electric mobile processing units and frontline execution. The day opened with a keynote from Shayne Phillips, Global Client Executive at Dell Technologies, who explored how generative AI can support predictive, efficient and high-return mining operations. Other presentations included Matthew Gray, Engineering Manager at Australian Diversified Engineering, on next-generation haul road performance; Dush Wimal, Director at Universal Field Robots, on scaling automation and zero-entry maturity; and Amos Park, Mechatronics Engineer Global at Dyno Nobel, on the real-world deployment of electric MPUs in Australia.

Representing MST Global, Chris Sutton, Global Solutions Advisor – Underground, and Darryn Fisher, Senior Vice President – Underground, presented Their session focused on how Short Interval Control can help underground operations move from reactive decision-making to a more connected, data-driven operating model, linking strategy with execution at the frontline.

The real value of Short Interval Control …

Chris and Darryn highlighted the importance of visibility, communication and timely operational data in improving day-to-day performance underground. By connecting people, equipment and workflows, Short Interval Control gives teams the ability to identify issues earlier, respond faster and keep production plans on track. Their presentation reinforced the role of digital enablement in helping supervisors and frontline crews make better decisions within each shift.

The session also explored how technology can support practical operational change, not just long-term transformation. For underground mines, the value lies in turning real-time information into actions that improve safety, productivity and accountability. MST Global’s contribution to the forum demonstrated how connected mining solutions can help operations bridge the gap between planning and execution, delivering measurable impact where it matters most: at the frontline.

Key themes from Chris and Darryn’s presentation included:

  • The role of Short Interval Control in improving shift-by-shift execution underground.
  • How better operational visibility helps teams identify constraints and respond faster.
  • The importance of connecting frontline workers, supervisors, equipment and systems.
  • Using timely data to support safer, more informed decision-making.
  • Aligning technology deployment with practical operational outcomes.
  • Building a stronger link between mine plans, daily execution and continuous improvement.

The forum concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Shayne Phillips from Dell Technologies, followed by audience Q&A, closing remarks and networking drinks. MST Global was also recognised as a Platinum Partner of the Brisbane Technology Forum.

Thank you …

MST Global thanks AusIMM for hosting the Brisbane forum and bringing together technology leaders from across the mining industry. Events like these provide an important platform for sharing ideas, showcasing practical innovation and discussing how technology can continue to support safer, smarter and more sustainable mining operations.
