2020 Year in Review: Our Top 10 Highlights
It’s been a challenging year for businesses globally. But as the end of 2020 draws near, we reflect on all our company achievements and there’s much to celebrate!
The spread of COVID-19 meant some big changes for MST Global and the way in which we operate. It saw opportunities to pivot and grow to continue to serve our underground mining partners globally.
And that’s what we did. Through working together, innovative ideas and the continued dedication of our people, we’ve reached the end of 2020 stronger and more resilient than before, ready for 2021.
We’d like to take this time to acknowledge all our hard-working employees who, despite facing many challenges through the year, have continued to show up and deliver a high-quality service to our customers – even if that meant a Zoom call from their home office.
By thinking big and looking after one another, we’ve managed to overcome so much.
Today, we share some of our highlights from 2020, celebrating all the great work our team have achieved this year.
Our Top 10 Highlights
1. MST GLOBAL REBRAND
We started the year with a new look for a new decade, unveiling a refreshed brand on 31 January. The refresh included a redevelopment of our website, a whole new look and feel with new brand assets, and the introduction of our MST Global Technology Series – #MSTtechtalk, a deep dive into our approach around solving industry needs.
2. LAUNCHING FUSION CORTEX SMARTPHONE
On 19 March, we launched our FUSION Cortex smartphone that not only allows our mining partners to message and talk with their personnel underground, but also track their location. Since launching, we’re seeing many mines benefit from a streamlined solution bringing in their phone, radio, data-network and VoIP applications into a single piece of hardware.
3. THE PIVOT: WORKING FROM HOME
For almost six months, COVID-19 saw us pivot our global office-based workplace to work remotely. While we may have been apart, we continued to maintain productivity and support our customers. Ensuring our employee’s safety has, and always will be, our priority and we are proud of our MST Global team who adapted quickly to this challenge. However, working from home wasn’t possible for all our people. We thank our frontline workers – in our assembly workshops and warehouses- for their dedication during this time.
4. CELLEBRATING 31 YEARS
This year marked our 31st birthday, a huge milestone and opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and look ahead to where we’re going. Our approach to the industries we serve is the same today as it was in 1989. We develop technologies and solutions that help improve your connectivity underground, improve safety and productivity.
5. LAUNCH OF HELIX
The launch of our next-generation software platform HELIX was a standout of the year. HELIX is a game-changing technology that enables undergrounds to build their entire digital ecosystem underground – connecting all their hardware, software and third-party integrations so all of the data, automation and visualisations are housed in one easy-to-use interface. Learn more about HELIX here.
6. GLOBAL PRESENTATIONS
There were many opportunities to share our knowledge and insights with our industry peers in 2020. MST Global delivered presentations at many virtual and in-person events including:
- APRIL 1 – Austmine ‘Positioning your Business into the Future’ Webinar. Our Marketing Manager, Nicolette Baker shared some great insights.
- JUNE 9TH – Global Mining Guidelines Group – GMG webinar on Location Tracking. MST Global Application Engineer Dirk Eisner discussed our long-stemmed history in location tracking in underground mines.
- AUGUST 19TH – AustmineReimagining Digital Mining Webinar Series. MST Global General Manager Product Management & Marketing Mark Palmer discussed the importance of choosing the right technology for your unique operations.
- DECEMBER 4 – Global Mining Guidelines Group virtual conference. Mark Palmer shared a presentation on ‘Why reliability and scalability are the key to scaling any underground mining operation’.
7. 100th AXON INSTALLATION
At the end of November, we celebrated our 100th installation of AXON at a large copper-gold mine in South Australia. AXON is a multifunctional platform we’ve developed to support existing and future wireless communication, tracking and automation technologies through high-bandwidth fibre. It includes AXON Core and AXON Air.
8. INTRODUCING NS41
In 2020, we welcomed NS41 to our product portfolio. It is the upgraded product from the NS40, which is our intrinsically safe wireless network infrastructure solution, crucial to high-speed communications for both underground and surface operations. The new version includes an upgraded power supply, so you have a wider choice of power options.
9. FEATURED IN MINING GLOBAL MAGAZINE
We’ve also had some great media coverage through the year. In February, MST Global CEO Haydn Roberts was interviewed in the Mining Global magazine.. In the interview, Mr Roberts talks about how far MST Global has come and all things digital transformation. Check out the article here. It’s a great read!
10. SUPPORTING OUR CUSTOMERS ON THEIR DIGITAL JOURNEY
Our last and most important highlight of the year was continuing to drive efficiencies, improve safety and productivity for our customers globally. We are now digital transformation partners to more than 300 customers across 6 continents.
A special thank you to all our employees for their commitment and dedication during 2020. We look forward to another great year in 2021.
