MST wins best in category at the Australian Good Design Awards 2014

SYDNEY, Australia, June 13, 2014 – MST is proud to announce that the company’s ICCL-PAD (Integrated Communications Cap Lamp – Personal Alert Device) has won “Best in Category” (Commercial & Industrial) at 2014 Australian Good Design Awards.

The PAD is the latest addition to MST’s Integrated Communications Cap Lamp (ICCL), providing proximity detection/collision awareness technology to enhance pedestrian safety within the underground mining environment. The ICCL-PAD provides warning alerts to both pedestrians and vehicle operators when they come within dangerous proximity of each other, and includes the ability to automatically stop machinery in situations when pre-defined safety zones are breached.

This is the third Australian Good Design Award won by MST over recent years for technology innovation in relation to its Integrated Communications Cap Lamp (ICCL).

The Australian Good Design Awards is recognised by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) as Australia’s peak design endorsement program. MST was firstly awarded a “Good Design Selection” award upon being shortlisted with 16 others, from the hundreds of entries received.  Then the company was awarded the prestigious “Best in Category” award against formidable competition. The “Best in Category” award represents the highest level of design excellence in a particular category, with winners representing “the absolute best in class design”.

With regard to MST’s entry, the judges commented:  “An extremely professional design outcome for what is a rugged and hostile environment. There is no room for error with a product of this nature. The technology innovation here has been coupled with professional industrial design, a key to the future success of this product.”
